Graduate profile

Admission to the course is subject to successful completion of the admissions procedure, where the applicant demonstrates the necessary qualities to study the given specialisation. The candidate’s knowledge, talents and abilities, as defined by TVI as a condition for admission to the course, are verified, assessed and evaluated by an admissions board composed of TVI representatives, a psychologist and a CME representative. The CME board decides on the admission of the applicant to the course on the basis of TVI recommendation.

The graduates are able to express their creative intent through the television medium, understand its means of expression, their function and specific features and are able to present their planned projects, i.e. are able to translate their intent into an explication, treatment and synopsis.

The graduates understand the dramatic structure of a TV series, reality show and other entertainment TV formats, and can identify key narrative situations and how they define the central conflict in the story. The graduates of the course can describe the development of individual characters and the evolution and transformation of their relationships.

The graduates understand the specifics of working with actors, non-actors and performers, understand the process of casting roles, can lead an acting rehearsal, understand set design, costuming and make-up, and can specify a visual styling concept.

The graduates understand the process of preparing, shooting and completing TV shows. They understand the synergies within the TV crew and are able to communicate with all the parties involved in the production of TV shows. They are able to use all available means of expression to achieve their vision for the TV show.

The graduates are familiar with editing and are able to work with both analogue and digital recording technologies.

The graduates are able to think critically and apply the knowledge gained in the studio to their own work. The graduates are proficient in all standard methods of expression in audiovisual media, can formulate a theme, participate in the development and critical reflection of a TV script, understand the subtext, process audiovisual footage, and can work as part of a team in the preparation and creation of a TV programme. They are proficient in all steps of the post-production process of audiovisual work and have knowledge of and skills in sound direction and music recording. They understand the technical quality of the audio component of AV production and audio post-production. In their professional work, the graduates of the course are able to respond flexibly to recent technological developments.

The graduates work closely with authors of a story and/or script and can bear the responsibility for developing the creative idea into all episodes of a long-running project or TV show, for the creative direction and outputs of the creative team, as well as for the creative management of the project. The graduates can work with data and analyse ratings and viewer satisfaction.

They are responsible for developing an idea into a (literary) script. They participate in formulating the genre, thematic and visual concepts, dramaturgical structure, character psychology and dialogue.

They are able to find new story ideas and scripts for various programming platforms and propose and develop new formats and projects.

They can participate in the development of a long-term strategy in selecting subject matter and creators, specifying project concepts and leading the projects through the development, production and distribution process.
